1: Thailand 19 January 2005
Hi everyone! I'm sitting in an internet cafe mainly because it has air
conditioning, but also to let you know what we've been doing. Our flight
was delayed 26 hours, since a new plane had to be flown out from
Thailand, but Air Phuket paid for a hotel and meals until we left the
next afternoon, getting in yesterday morning. We decided to stay in a
nice hotel the first night so had air conditioning which was really
nice, but I doubt that we'll have any more of that for a while.
Yesterday we wandered around Khao San Road (the backpackers street) and
did some shopping, then we had dinner at a street stall. This morning we
went on a tuk tuk (local 3 wheel motorbike/cart) on a tour around the
city and we think we might have been scammed, we went to a tailor and
got fitted for suits and a dress for me, making of mistake of paying for
it upfront, but although Brad is convinced that we'll be cheated, I
think the shop looked authentic enough. We'll see.
We went to a few temples but none of them were very impressive, then
went to Chinatown for lunch. We're about to take a bus and then a boat
to Koh Tao, an island on the east coast where I'm going to do my
openwater dive course and Brad's doing some dives. 3 of his friends are
already out there and they paid the same as us, so we don't think we got
ripped off there. After that we're planning on going to Koh Phan Ngang
to a full moon party. We'll see what happens after that, probably on to
Cambodia next.
Love Emily and Brad
